Fayette Daybreak Rotary at Work! On a recent Saturday morning, members of our club worked on the grounds of Promise Place domestic violence shelter, spreading mulch and doing general clean-up. We were glad to be of service to this organization that does such important work in our community.
We were honored to have District Governor Raymond Ray make his official visit to our club in late August. Our AG, Ed Outlaw joined us too for this very special morning. We inducted Teresa Nelson as our newest club member, recognized our new Interact Club President, Savannah Hill, and honored our club's first Paul Harris Major Donor. Raymond gave pins to our club members who were veterans and we presented checks to the two non-profits we'll support - Promise Place and Armed Forces Mission - thanks to our District Grant this year. Raymond inspired and entertained us, signed the book we'll donate to Tyrone Library in his name, then met with our Board to help us plan the coming year. It was a great morning of Rotary. Thank you DG Raymond and AG Ed, for all you do for our club and our district!
It was a busy weekend, but a fun one for us. As always, we hosted the annual 5K Race/1 Mile Walk fundraiser event. Proceeds support our club's service projects throughout the year. And new for 2016, we also helped with parking on Friday and Saturday at Handley Park. We were so grateful for the help we got from our hard-working Interact Club members from Sandy Creek High School. Thank you! (Click here for more photos).
We were excited to welcome our newest members, Mitch Bowman and Bob Deull, into the Fayette Daybreak family. DG Raymond was on hand for the induction and presented both men with special Rotary Veterans pins as part of the ceremony. (Mitch is in the white shirt and Bob is in the blue.)
Thanks to our District Grant this year, our club was able to purchase and donate much-needed dining tables and chairs for the women and children at Promise Place domestic violence shelter. On a recent Saturday, club members made the delivery and helped put everything in place for these families.
Each year our club delivers apples and chocolates as a thank you to local area teachers. We're so grateful for all they do for our children. Early one morning we dropped off these "thank you gifts" at Sandy Creek HS, Flat Rock MS, John Burch and Crabapple Elementary Schools.
Once again this year, our club provided free coffee and pastries for veterans, families, and friends at the annual Veterans Day event in Tyrone. It was an inspiring morning with lots of wind but no rain, so we were thankful. It's always an honor to provide a small thank you to these military families.
It was a fun and busy holiday season for our club. We volunteered at the Tyrone Christmas Tree Lighting event, as we do each year. It was a rainy night, so the festivities were inside, but we had a great time and were grateful for help from the Sandy Creek Inter Act Club. We also donated items for the BASTAS (Be a Santa To a Senior) program and helped on wrapping day. And our club volunteered at a holiday party at Georgia Baptist Children's Home in Palmetto. Plus, to top off the holiday season, we had a wonderful time at Jody's house for our end of year party. Much to be grateful for - now on to 2017!
